The legendary rock band Fleetwood Mac announced Monday that Lindsey Buckingham — the singer and guitarist who had been with the band from1975 to 1987 and then 1997 to 2018 is no longer with the group. Buckingham helped Fleetwood Mac make such genre-defining albums as Rumors, and Tango in the Night.
It was reported on Monday by Variety, that Lindsey Buckingham had left the rock band, Fleetwood Mac. That same day, it was confirmed by Rolling Stone that Buckingham was in fact fired, and replaced by two guitarists: Mike Campbell, who spent time playing in Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and Austrailian singer/songwriter and frontman of Crowded House, Neil Finn. A sad day for hardcore fans who were expecting the lineup when the band went on their global tour.
Though it first came to light last week when ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist Billy Burnette who took Buckingham’s place during 1987 to 1995. Burnett tweeted, “Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out, but I’m not in.” but a few hours later, the tweet was taken down.
In a statement shared with Variety, the band responded,
“We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, we’ll be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus we’ll be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalog of songs. Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour… Lindsey Buckingham will not be performing with the band on this tour. The band wishes Lindsey all the best.”
