TT, the solo project of Warpaint’s Theresa Wayman, premieres a new track and video today—“I’ve Been Fine” off of LoveLaws, her solo debut album set for release May 18.
“I’ve Been Fine” follows “Love Leaks,” which was released last month. The music video takes place in a dimly lit bar, “a lounge for lost souls,” as a TT laments over a haunting melody about struggling to admit the end of a romance. Her eyes stare unfocused under smudged eyeliner as happier versions of herself and what appears to be a former lover waltz into the bar.
The vibe of the video is hypnotic and haphazard, and it is here that TT launches into what can only be described as interpretive dance; she moves in jerky, spastic movements, meant to symbolize the internal struggle over letting go of a lost love. Then as soon as the viewer is made privy to this mournful ode to loss and love, it’s over. The moody red lighting snaps off in a flash as TT looks straight into the camera, a bright smile on her face. Perhaps moving on is easier than she thought.
