Maps & Atlases Announces New Album Lightlessness Is Nothing New for June 2018 Release

Maps & Atlases have announced their return to the music world with a new album titled Lightlessness Is Nothing New, set for release on June 1, 2018. They are releasing the album on Barsuk Records, the same label that issued their last album, 2012’s Beware and Be Grateful. In addition to the album announcement, the band has shared a new song from the album, titled “Fall Apart.” The song pushes the vocals of Dave Davison to the front of the mix while the complex instrumentation in the background creates a delicate pop composition.

The band was initially labeled as a math rock band with twisting, contorted riffs set atop bizarre and ever-changing time signatures. Like many of their peers from that genre (think Q and Not U or Minus the Bear), the band eventually evolved into a more accessible and less technical beast, with Davison’s uniquely emotive vocals taking center stage.

Lightlessness is Nothing New track list

1. “The Fear”
2. “Fall Apart”
3. “Ringing Bell”
4. “Violet Threaded”
5. “Fog And The Fall”
6. “Learn How To Swim”
7. “Super Bowl Sunday”
8. “War Dreams”
9. “4/25”
10. “Wrong Kind Of Magic”

With a new song and album in tow, the band will hit the road this summer. They’ll be playing a lengthy tour along both coasts before wrapping up in Cincinnati at the end of June. See the list of dates below:
