Third Man Records to Reissue Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica Including a Literal Cut-Out Trout Mask

The 1969 album Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band will be reissued by Third Man Records. The classic composition is available through the label’s vault package subscription and will even include a “replica trout mask.” The double-LP will be featured as a multicolored “fish scale” vinyl along with Beefheart’s “Pachucho Cadaver” 7” inch single.

The album was produced by Beefheart’s friend Frank Zappa and was originally released on Zappa’s label Straight Records. In 2012 the album was ranked as number 60 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and it featured tracks such as “Ella Guru” and “My Human Gets Me Blues.”

Beefheart, aka Don Van Vliet, passed away in California at the age of 69 in 2010. Vliet had been suffering from the complications brought on by multiple sclerosis since the 1990’s. Along with the purchase of the record fans will also receive a print of label founder Jack White’s epitaph for Van Vliet.
