Mercury Rev Celebrates ‘Deserter’s Songs’ 20th Anniversary with New U.S Tour Dates

American Indie rock band Mercury Rev is celebrating their fourth studio album’s 20th anniversary with tour dates in the United States. The tour begins on April 12th in Gijon, Spain and ends on October 26th in Brooklyn, NY. The tour is promised to be an extraordinary glimpse into what nearly destroyed a band and the strange events leading up to a most unexpected return.

The band’s album Deserter’s Songs was released on September 29th, 1998. The album came out in limited edition copies packaged in brown cardboard envelope-like packaging. The packaging had a stamp on the cover with the release date and two art postcards. The band is playing acoustic and intimate shows with a focus on on towns in Ireland and Scotland in which they’ve rarely performed before this tour. The songs will be performed in the fragile “whisper and strum” that they were originally written. The LP merged jazz, folk and 60s rock with Disney soundtrack fantasia and heralded Mercury Rev’s rebirth as purveyors of a cosmic brand of the popular American songbook. The album received praise from Rolling Stone’s Album Guide, Entertainment Weekly, Pitchfork, NME and MOJO along with others.

According to mxdwn the band released their last studio album, The Light In You, on September 18th, 2015. When the new album was announced the first song “Queen of Swans” and the album’s art work.
