mxdwn PREMIERE: Polish Club Flawlessly Combine Vintage Soul and Garage Rock in New Video for “Beeping”

Polish Club take classic influences from soul, R&B and doo wop and mix it with the frenetic pacing of punk rock and the viscerally raw feel of garage rock. Those talents are put on full display in the simple yet effective video for their new song “Beeping,” which we are premiering today. The video itself is a simple affair, featuring the two members David Novak and John-Henry Pajak simply abusing their instruments over the course of the two and a half minute long song.

Hailing from the Australian capital of Sydney, the rock ‘n roll duo are gearing up for the release of their debut LP by releasing the split vinyl single “Beeping” and “Able,” both indelible slices of infectious garage-soul. The band have been described on legendary Aussie radio station Triple J as writing “pop songs fifty years late and twice the speed.”

Regarding the choice to go forward as a two piece – a format that other garage rock bands like The Black Keys and White Stripes have found success in – Pajak finds the arrangement more liberating than restricting: “I got JH in to drum for the…high school band and he soon had the bright idea of playing out some ideas with just the two of us,” he said. “It was less about being a two-piece and more about just finding another person on the same page and that was easy to write with.”

Polish Club have several dates in support of the new double A-side single “Beeping” / “Able” as well as their new full-length LP. A handful of hese dates are with a more famous (for now) rock duo from the UK called Royal Blood. Comparing live performance with in-studio work, Pajak said “We’re very focused on our live show first and foremost as it’s the place where you make that literal connection between the music and the listener. Recording is a whole different ballgame as we’re free to add anything that we want essentially. For the most part our general rule is to not add anything to a record that would be missed live. So if there’s a bass line in there, it can’t stray too far to what i’m doing on the E string of my guitar (which I split into a bass amp live).”
