After two decades of accolades and acclaimed releases; The Flaming Lips have announced they will release two remastered compilations which will feature some of their earliest recorded songs. The Oklahoma natives are sharing collections that will shine a light on the band’s sound of the early days; which was more of a grimy garage punk sound and less of the arena psychedelia fans are accustomed to now.
These anthologies will include a single-disc compilation entitled Scratching The Door: The First Recordings Of The Flaming Lips, which is set for release April 20 on Warner Bros. This will be followed by a six- CD box set featuring their work with Restless Records called Seeing The Unseeable: The Complete Studio Recordings Of The Flaming Lips 1986-1990, set for a May release.
Never released before digitally, the band has unveiled the song “The Flaming Lips Theme Song 1983” which is a part of Scratching The Door. The only outlet fans could have previously accessed the song on was a limited 7 inch record from 2013.
The albums have been remastered by the bands longtime producer David Fridmann of course with the help of Flaming Lips member Wayne Coyne and Michael Ivins. The band is going to share the captured madness that was their sound before they signed to Warner Bros. in 1991.
Fans can catch The Flaming Lips at the Upstream Music Festival in Seattle in June along with fellow headliners Miguel and Jawbreaker.
