Killer Mike’s interview with NRA TV was released on March 24th, the same day that March For Our Lives rallies were held across America to protest stricter gun laws. Killer Mike claims that the interview was shot a week before it was aired. According to CNN Killer Mike criticized National School Walkout Day that took place on March 14th where some students walked out of their classes. The purpose of the walkout was to pay tribute to the 17 lives lost during the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL on February 14th.

After receiving criticism on Twitter Killer Mike posted two apology videos, saying that he wanted to clarify things about his interview. He stated that does support the march and that the purpose of him doing the interview with the NRA was to continue a conversation about African-Americans owning guns.

Killer Mike’s partner, El-P came to his defense on Twitter on March 25th. While El-P did not agree exactly with what Killer Mike had said he considers the people marching for gun control to be heroes. According to Pitchfork El-P said in regards to Killer Mike’s NRA interview, “i can not and will not ever turn my back on this man. he wouldn’t turn his on me. or you.”, even though they have different opinions.
