Sinéad O’Connor Announces First Live Appearances in United States in Four Years with Spring 2018 Tour Dates

Sinéad O’Connor has announced her first live appearances in the United States in four years, as reported by Brooklyn Vegan. The Irish singer, performing now under the name Magda Davitt, has announced a pair of shows in New England this spring.

The first show takes place in Portsmouth, NH at The Music Hall on April 24. She’ll then play at the Academy of Music in Northampton, MA on the next night, April 25. While these are the only two shows that the singer has announced for 2018, she has indicated that there will be more extensive touring later in the year.

The name change is not new news for those that have followed the controversial “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer. She recently appeared on Dr. Phil to talk about her mental health battles, including revealing her sexual and physical abuse as a child. She explained the change to the television personality, stating that her new name “Magda Davitt” would free her of “paternal curses.” She would then enter a treatment facility that Dr. Phil recommended, but eventually left the center and criticized it for a lack of monitoring of suicidal patients.

Since 2015 the singer, who last released I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss in 2014, has mostly been in the news for her mental health scares. In November of 2015 she posted note on her Facebook page that indicated she intended to take her own life. A panic ensued over the next few hours before she was found safe in Chicago suburb, not far from where she lives. Most recently, she made an appearance at a 60th birthday party for Pogues singer Shane MacGowen.
