Del The Funky Homosapien Announces New Album Gate 13 with Producer Amp Live for April 2018 Release and Shares New Song “Wheel of Fortune”

Bay Area rapper Del the Funky Homosapien is teaming up with producer Amp Live for a new album that will be released on April 20 – a pretty logical release date for all those weed-heads that had their minds blown by Del’s MC skills on releases by Hieroglyphics and the magnificent Dan the Automator collaboration Deltron 3030. So far the duo have released on song from the album, “Wheel of Fortune.” Over a frenetic beat Del shows off his rapping skills, which have not diminished whatsoever over the course of 20+ years.

The pair have also released a teaser video for the full album. Check it out below:

The album will consists of 16 tracks that will feature influences from a range of genres. Expect to hear flourishes of electronica, funk and hip-hop over the course of the new album. The album will feature guest appearances from artists like Goapele, Eligh, Simi, Zyme, Adult Karate, Mr. Micro and James Melo.

According to a press release, Del took a deep look into the world of battle rap to come up with inspiration for Gate 13. Taking a more concise approach to his writing was a major goal of Del (certainly a noble challenge for a rapper famous for some verbose raps) and as it so happens, Amp Live was producing beats that perfectly aligned with that approach. “Del has been talking about doing more straightforward, aggressive writing,” said the producer. “”Everything that I was messing with kind of had the same theme.”

UPDATE (3/23): Del the Funky Homosapien and Amp Live have released a new video for their song “Wheel of Fortune.” Check out the clip, which was shot and edited by Spencer Groshong, below:
