Animal Collective is set to share new material at New Orleans’ Music Box Village on March 16th and 17th, says Stereogum. band members Avey Tare, Geologist, and Deakin, sans Panda Bear as well as local artists such as Aurora Nealand, Helen Gillet, and Marion Thoughtz, performed a set of all new material in a venue that is well known for its sound and art installations. The only missing member was Panda Bear, who is scheduled to start his solo tour in April. He will also be joined by Geologist on some of those dates.
According to Spin, Panda Bear and Avey Tare joined forces for the first live performance of Sung Tongs in Brooklyn at the end of 2017. In December, however, the band released holiday live album taken from a recent show in New Haven, Conn.’s College Street Music Halland and donated all proceeds to Direct Relief., which is a non-for-profit organization that seeks to “improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies.” According to PItchfork, the live album will be available for whatever amount fans decide to pay.
In 2017, the band has released two new EPs: The Painters and Meeting of the Waters, while Avey Tare shared a solo album, Eucalyptus and Panda Bear’s new EP, A Day With the Homies, is due next January.
Pitchfork has also reported that Meeting of the Waters was entirely recorded in the Brazilian rainforest. Members of the band revealed how artistically important sampling is for them, thus the choice to export the whole recording set to the rainforest. The region’s deforestation issues are also reasons that made the band opt for such a extravagant and unique move.
