Today Speedy Ortiz took the stage at the Fader Fort during Austin, TX’s massive SXSW music festival. With a new album on the way, it was only expected that the band would be playing some new tunes. The Fader reports that they delivered with an as-yet-unreleased song that will be from their new album Twerp Verse, titled “Lean In When I Suffer.” The song aligns with most of the band’s discography with twisting, distorted guitar riffs and driving, anthemic chorus. There is one twist to the new song (and the band’s set at SXSW) – prominent use of the saxophone, which seems to be a growing trend in indie rock.
You can watch all of the action at the Fader Fort from the comfort of your couch, anywhere in the world with livestream of select sets. Twerp Verse will be out on April 27 via their longtime label Carpark Records. The band previously released the song “Lucky 88” from the album, which is their first since lead singer Sadie Dupuis started up her solo career as Sad13 and released an album called Slugger in 2016.
