In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Exile in Guyville, Liz Phair is releasing a limited edition box set containing the music from Phair’s library pre-Exile. Girly-Sound to Guyville: The 25th Anniversary Box Set contains the original album, newly remastered, as well as restored versions of the three tapes Phair recorded under the name Girly-Sound prior to making Guyville: Yo Yo Buddy Yup Yup Word to Ya Mutha, Girls! Girls! Girls!, and Sooty.
Also included in the bundle is a lavish book featuring an oral history by Jason Cohen and essays penned by journalist Ann Powers and Phair herself. The box set will be available as a 3-CD set or 7-LP set (with additions like never-before-seen photos and artwork), and will also be offered in digital formats and on streaming platforms.
Phair is currently working on an upcoming album and book, and more than a year ago, she was spotted in the studio with Ryan Adams and Don Was , possibly working on a collaborative single.
The singer-songwriter has shared an early alternate version of “Divorce Song”, which appears on Girly-Sounds tape Yo Yo Buddy. Listen to the song below, followed by artwork and the full tracklist.
