Tinariwen Releases New Animated Video for “Nannuflay” Featuring Mark Lanegan and Kurt Vile

In recent years, renowned Saharan band Tinariwen’s homeland, a mountain range between north-eastern Mali and southern Algeria, has been transformed into a conflict zone. This development seemed a constant presence among Tinariwen’s recently released 7th album Elwan, with each and every song on the album evoking a land no longer found, with nostalgia for a joyous past and sadness for the tragic loss of a territory.

The band has just released a new animated music video for the track “Nannuflay” off of Elwan, which features both Kurt Vile and Mark Lanegan. The video features an old Tuareg man returns to the camp where he grew up, bringing back memories of both the joys and the torments of the nomadic life he lived there, a story of hearty people living in lands of loneliness.
