Popular music festival Bestival has just announced the lineup for its 2018 edition. The event will take place on August 2-5 in Lulworth Estate, Dorset and among the headliners names such as MIA, Grace Jones, London Grammar and Kelela appear, according to the festival’s official website.
Bestival is a very prestigious stage for artists to perform and an exciting event for fans and music lovers to attend. Started in 2004 at Robin HIll in The Isle Of Wight, it relocated to its current location in 2017. Dj and producer Rob da Bank and his wife are the creators of the festival, which is mainly promoted and organized through its record label Sunday Best.
Recipient of many prestigious awards such as ‘Best Major Festival’ at the 2015 UK Festival Awards,’Best Medium-Sized Festival’ in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009, ‘Best Major Festival’ in 2010, 2012 and in 2015, ‘Fan’s Favourite’ in 2011 and ‘Best Innovation’ in 2005, the event has seen many top notch headliners such as the XX, Pet Shop Boys, Little Dragon and many more.
This year the exciting task of headlining the event will fall to Django Django, LA Salami and Sundara Karma among others.
London Grammar, which will hit the Castle stage with Silk City, MIA and First Aid Kit, has recently told NME that they’re working on something new for their performance at Bestival, which they are keeping secret until then.
Kelela, on the other hand, will perform on the Big Top Stage alongside Ghetts, Casisdead and Lotto Boyzz. She has recently released a new music video in which she’s a Sims character and said that such move gave her the opportunity to tell her story in a “light-hearted but dramatic way”, according to Pitchfork.
Rapper MIA will perform on the Castle Stage alongside Thundercat, Jimmy Cliff and Kojey Radical. In 2016, the singer has faced criticism over her calling out artists such as Beyonce for only addressing issues brought forth by groups like Black Lives Matter and ignoring other crucial ones such as violence towards muslims, according to the Guardian.
After being criticized by Black Lives Matter activists such as Deray McKesson, the singer clarifies her position but reiterated her belief that only certain topics are allowed on “American Platforms”.
