Another festival, in preparation for the festival circuit, has released its 2018 lineup. According to their site, their lineup has been announced. Dour will feature the greats such as Action Bronson, Alt-J, BADBADNOTGOOD, Big Boi, Blu Samu, The Chemical Brothers, Chelsea Wolfe, Cashmere Cat, Ken Boothe, Little Dragon, Mount Kimbie, Princess Nokia. Dour Festival, located in Dour, Belgium, has been a member of the music festivals everywhere since 1989. In 2015, the attendance of Dour Festival grew to 225,000 people over the course of five days.
Their first year was different. In 1989, the festival only booked five bands in one day. Now, however, the festival is four days long, has nine stages, and features over a whopping 280 musical acts. Dour Festival does not cover one genre, but, instead, has music from pretty much every genre conceivable so as to touch the hearts of all music lovers. Music begins everyday at 12pm and ends an exhausting 17 hours later at 5am. Due to its high volume of music and tickets, the 2009 festival experienced around 40% of their attendees from Brussels, 32% from Flanders, 16% from France, and 2% from across the pond. The next year in 2010, the experience won a prize for best medium-sized festival at the aptly named European Festival Awards. The following names are the names of their stages: The Last Arena (main), Dance Hall (electronic), Jupiler Boombox (Rap, soul, R’n’B), La Caverne (punk and metal), Red Bull Elektropedia Balzaal (techno, DnB, dub), Dub Corner, Le Labo (experimental music), and La Cubanisto Dancing (eclectic).
This festival is truly unique and is located in a beautiful location. It is definitely a musical experience perfect for someone in dire need of a vacation. It is one of the only festivals with such a wide base of music and spans over more than 2 or 3 days. To top it all off, Belgium is truly as Colin Farrell exclaims in the film In Bruges: “it’s a f–in’ fairytale.
