Hot after proclaiming J. Cole as one of its headlining acts yesterday, Summerfest kept the announcement car running, revealing this morning that Arcade Fire (along with a special guest to be announced) will serve as the “Big Gig”‘s closing night headliner on Sunday, July 8.
The show marks the Canadian indie rock band’s first visit to Milwaukee since 2004, when the group played a slightly smaller venue – The Mad Planet – while supporting its breakout debut studio album, “Funeral.” Since then, the six-piece band has only gotten more and more popular, with the band’s most recent album, Everything Now – released last July – marked its third record to chart number one on the Billboard 200.
Tickets, priced between $65.23 and $109.40, are available beginning at noon Saturday at the Summerfest box office, or apparently by calling 1-800-745-3000 or 1-866-448-7849. Or, of course, by visiting ticketmaster here. They include Summerfest general admission July 3.
Just two amphitheater shows have yet to be announced for Summerfest this year, running June 27 to July 1 and July 3 to 8.
The lineup so far includes Imagine Dragons with Grace VandeerWaal on June 27, James Taylor with Bonnie Raitt on June 28, Halsey and Logic on June 29, Florida Georgia Line with Bebe Rexha on June 30, Dave Matthews Band on July 1, Def Leppard and Journey on July 4, Shawn Mendes on July 5, and Blake Shelton on July 6.
UPDATE (4/6): Summerfest has announced its full lineup and there’s something for everyone here. Playing the week-long Wisconsin festival are artists like Kesha, The Flaming Lips, Pixies, The Neighbourhood, Spoon, Grizzly Bear and Chromeo. Other highlights include soulful singer Meyer Hawthorne, classic punks Social Distortion, Boz Skaggs, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Trampled By Turtles and more. See the full lineup in the flyer below:
UPDATE (5/11): In addition to the already massive list of headliners and artists to be featured at Summerfest, the event has announced another several acts to make the Big Gig even bigger. The most notable of these names include former member of OutKast and legendary producer/hitmaker Big Boi (this “big” theme is working out really well), pop punk veterans the All-American Rejects, seasoned folk rockers the Wallflowers, dream pop darlings Belly and figureheads of 90’s pop rock Third Eye Blind. Others include Third World, Jack & Jack, The Wailers, Midland, Jonathan Davis of Korn, In Real Life, Lucky Boys Confusion, Drax Project, The Sisterhood, Jukebox the Ghost, Becca Mancari, Logan Henderson, Dorothy, and the New Power Generation.
