mxdwn Premiere: Millionyoung Throws a Psychedelic Tropicalia Dance Party in New Video for “Never Be The Same”

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, has a new album on the way in April called Rare Form, set to be released on Friday the 13th through Mishu Records. Today we have the premiere of a new video from the album, for the track “Never Be The Same.” The eye-popping visuals are a perfect accompaniment to the liquid beats, house-y keyboards and psychedelic flourishes.

The song leads with an excellent build-up, with the video showcasing Millionyoung grooving to his own cool beat. Geodesic crystals float by the screen as the song glides into the first verse. The song channels the best of late 00s chillwave movement while pushing the ball forward with a cohesive mix of electronica, pop and rock. At the end of the video Millionyoung even does his best Daft Punk impression, with the lights cast upon his shadow giving him the appearance of a strange mask.

Rare Form is the first Millionyoung full length since Variable in 2013, though he did release an EP in 2014. Lately he has been playing festivals in his native state of Florida, though he also plays select dates around the U.S.
