Kanye West Introduces Kid Cudi at NBA All-Star Game Before Surprise Performance of “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1”

On February 18th, Kanye West made a surprise appearance at the NBA all-star weekend event in Los Angeles. West took the stage to join Chicago’s rapper Kid Cudi, in a duet of their collaborative track “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1”, from West’s 2016 release Life Of Pablo.

This is the second performance of the two rappers in a few months. Back in November, Cudi had in fact invited West to drop by and perform their song at his Chicago show. According to Pitchfork, that represented West’s first performance in over a year. The two also performed together during West’s 2016 Sacramento concert.

Moreover, in August 2017, the two rappers were spotted together at Japanese artist Takashi Murakami’s Tokyo studio, which led some to believe that the two were working on a joint project, which, unfortunately for the West and Cudi’s fans, never came to be.

According to The Fader, the potential collaboration was seen as a way for the two to rekindle their friendship and working relationship, after Cudi manifested his frustration with West (his mentor and artistic godfather) on Twitter.

Following the heated exchange, however, West was hospitalized for a mental breakdown, which caused the abrupt cancellation of many dates of his Saint Pablo tour, which was already under the spotlight for a couple of controversial performances, in which the rapper expressed his conflicts with Jay-Z and Beyonce and declared his sympathy to at the time presidential candidate Donald Trump.

More recently, the rapper caught the attention of the media by shortly reactivating his Instagram account and posting pictures of broken couples such as Madonna and Sean Penn and Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt for Valentine’s day, as well as a post with a loving message addressed (or at least meant to be addressed ) to his wife. The account was deleted once again shortly after.
