Just about a month until SXSW 2018 hosts its annual music festival in Austin, TX and we have more artists announced to fill out the already-massive lineup. As the festival looms ever-closer, the names are starting get more recognizable, though there’s still an abundance of up-and-coming unknowns who’ll perform in Austin next month.
Leading the way this round is …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, the Austin-based art-rock band who rose to the top of the underground rock scene in the early 00s with their nearly-flawless Source Tags & Codes. The record seamlessly combined ambitious orchestral arrangements with post-hardcore emoting and catchy Sonic Youth-esque guitar riffage. They’ve released several records in the time since, including the underrated Source Tags & Codes follow-up Worlds Apart and 2014’s return to form, XI.
Also performing is Dashboard Confessional, who struck emo-pop gold in the 00s with their sophomore album The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most. Their latest album Crooked Shadows is the band’s first since 2009 and finds them in a much more pop-oriented universe. Cut Copy will be performing in support of their latest album, 2017’s strong outing Haiku from Zero. Bun B, best known for his role in the seminal Texas hip-hop duo Underground Kingz (UGK) along with the late Pimp C, will also be performing at SXSW 2018. Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats will appear just after the March 9 release of their new album on Stax Records, which will be called Tearing At The Seams. Yet another band that reached a high level of notoriety during the emo wave was Say Anything, who will appear at SXSW.
Other notable artists include rising alternative hip-hop MC Abhi The Nomad, Los Angeles experimental group Drab Majesty, Austin group Ghostland Observatory, singer-songwriter Matt Costa, DC band Sneaks and Los Angeles DJ Peanut Butter Wolf.
