Danish noise punk band Iceage has released a video for their new song “Catch It.” The song and video is the first new material in four years from the band. Both are an outstanding homage to the punk genre they call their own. The video was shot on 8mm film in Los Angeles by director Adam Hashemi.
The band formed in 2008 in Copenhagen, Denmark and has released three studio albums. They started with 2011s New Brigade and followed with 2013s You’re Nothing. Their last release was Plowing Into the Field of Love in 2014 on Matador Records accompanied by the single “The Lord’s Favorite.”
On “Catch It” they ditch the often times whimsical approach that could be heard on Plowing Into the Field of Love and attack with a much darker punk sentiment.
The vocals are dirty and emotive and the guitars are staggering. Vocalist Elias Bender Rønnenfelt opts for rich texture in his tone rather than wordy melodies. With every lyric there seems to be animus intent and desire.
Just as the song reaches its height it cuts abruptly to what seems like the perfect ending point, but the band does not let the listener off the hook as they drop in with a shrill musical climax. With “Catch It” Iceage have created a sound that is hard to produce; where hopes are captivated by a wanted agitation.
