Courtney Barnett Teases Snippets of New Music in Video

Courtney Barnett knows how to tease fans. Today, through her Twitter account, the singer/songwriter/guitarist from Australian shared a two-and-a-half minute video today that appears to tease her new album. There’s been talk that Barnett has been busy working on new music, last November she had given an update to on her progress. Now, that progress is revealed to be going smoothly.

The clip is called “Tell Me How You Really Feel,” a tease that a new album may or may not be just around the corner. Within the video, Barnett is seen alone in a studio filled with a variety of different instruments just waiting for someone to dust them off and play. That someone is Barnett, who, throughout the short clip, is seen picking up each musical instrument; an acoustic guitar one moment and sitting before a piano the next. With each instrument, she strums, touches and drums as she sings bits and pieces of new songs that she’s been working on. It is a behind the scenes featurette that gives fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

Each song snippet is quiet and yet fiercely poetic with such lyrics as “waking up to another dismal day.” Towards the end of the clip, Barnett strums her heart out with the track titled“I’m Not Your Mother, I’m Not Your Bitch,” before the video goes dark. The clip’s title and possible album title pops up on screen giving fans yet another tease.

Though it is unclear whether a new album is on the horizon but judging from the short clip, the music Barnett is working on will be worth the wait. The video does come with a link to Barnett’s official website and smack dab in the middle is a prompt asking fans to write in 250 words or less “how they really feel.” The site promises more this Thursday, February 15th. Maybe an album announcement is in our near future? Fans only have a couple of days to figure out.

In 2015, Barnett released her debut full-length album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, via Mom + Pop which landed at #6 on Under the Radar’s Top 100 Albums of 2015 list. Barnett teamed up with Philly rocker Kurt Vile for the collaborative album, Lotta See Lice. The album was released back in October via Matador. Vile,
