Legacy Recordings Announces Johnny Cash: Forever Words Tribute Album Featuring “New” Cash Songs Performed by Chris Cornell, Elvis Costello and More

It seems that posthumous records are becoming an integral part of the music industry with the greats passing left and right. Now, it is Johnny Cash’s turn from the afterlife with a large and beautiful tribute album called Johnny Cash: Forever Words.

This new album contains 16 songs that were conceived from Cash’s personal poetry, lyrics, and letters and set to music by a list of Grade A musicians. These artists are Chris Cornell (also posthumous), Ruston Kelly & Kacey Musgraves, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Brad Paisley, Kris Kristofferson & Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Elvis Costello, T Bone Burnett, Jewel, Carlene Carter, Dailey & Vincent, I’m With Her, Robert Glasper with Ro James, The Jayhawks, and Jamey Johnson.

The entirety of the album was mostly recorded at The Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee and accompanies Forever Words: The Unknown Poems which is a collection of Cash’s unpublished writings as edited by Paul Muldoon. Johnny Cash: Forever Words was co-produced by John Carter Cash and Steve Berkowitz and will be released on April 6 via Legacy Records on CD, Double LP, and Digitally.
