John Prine is an American folk musician and songwriter who has been active in the music industry since the early 70’s and was a driving force in revival of folk in Chicago. Prine has been widely accepted as one of the biggest influences for the songwriting and folk music of his generation. However, it has been a long while since we have heard any new music from the folk-god. Now, however, after thirteen years, Prine has announced through a press release that he will be releasing a new fully original album titled Tree of Forgiveness. The album will be released on April 13 (coincidence?) via his own label Oh Boy Records. Produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb, the album contains the singer’s newest material and has already released a single in advance of the release of Tree of Forgiveness. Listen to the new single here. https:In support of his album, Prine will also go on a large tour that will continue throughout the year and will also co-headline a special concert with Sturgill Simpson at the infamous Radio City Music Hall in New York. This once-in-a-lifetime show will happen on the release of Prine’s album so as to celebrate his new work in thirteen years.
The album was recorded in Nashville’s RCA Studio and was written alongside Pat McLaughlin, Roger Cook, Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach, and Keith Sykes. Tree of Forgiveness features Prine on vocals and acoustic guitar along with Cobb and John Prine’s backing band. There are also special guests such as Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and Amanda Shires.
