mxdwn PREMIERE: Strange Names Release Bauhaus School-Inspired Video for “UFO”

Strange Names are releasing a new album called Data through Frenchkiss Records on February 23 and it combines modern electronic pop with classic new wave from the 80s. Today we have the premiere of the band’s video for “UFO,” a song that was previously released as a single back in early January. The video, which was shot on the cheap, is inspired by the Bauhaus school of art, featuring the band members with painted faces atop quickly transitioning video clips – at times their bodies or faces merging with the footage in the background.

“We had to make this one on the cheap. Our friend Pedro Lopez shot it, and we edited it,” said Liam Benzvi. “It’s heavily inspired by the Bauhaus school, and pretty much encapsulates the overall stylistic message of the record. The video should make you seize a little, giggle, stew in confusion, and hopefully move around. I envision it in the background of Elizabeth Hurley’s hell nightclub in the early 00s Bedazzled remake.”

Data is Strange Names’ second LP, following their debut album in 2015, Use Your Time Wisely. The trio of musicians is made up of Benzvi, Francis Ximénez and Fletcher Aleckson, who originally hail from Minneapolis but are currently based in New York City. The new record was self-produced by the band members in their new home of NYC, specifically Brooklyn. The new album takes on a more rock oriented sound for Strange Names, evolving from the slick sound of their debut.
