Lorde’s debut hit “Royals” receives RIAA Diamond Certification. “Royals” was Lorde’s first breakthrough, which was released in 2012 as part of her debut EP, “The Love Club EP”, and was later released as part of her debut studio album “Pure Heroine” in 2013. Royals is an electropop song, which has elements of electronic, alternative, and R&B music. It explores, the artist’s distaste for luxurious lifestyle. In its first week of release, Royals sold 85,000 paid downloads and was debuted at number 90 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has now surpassed 10 million in sales and is one the most successful singles in RIAA Gold & Platinum program history to earn the Diamond Certification. Lorde, the Grammy award winning singer, and songwriter was among the only five female singers, who have achieved this certification.
Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, better known as her stage name “Lorde”, is a New Zealand born, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She has released two albums, to this day, Pure Heroine in 2013, and Melodrama in 2017. Pure Heroine, Lorde’s first album, which was distributed by Universal Music Group, Republic, and Lava in September 2013, was a massive success. After its release, the album was debuted at number one on every major weekly and monthly chart. It was later nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Album at the 56th Grammy Awards. Her latest album Melodrama has ranked number 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, and was nominated for the Album of the Year, at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
