Alice In Chains Announces Summer 2018 Tour Dates

Alice In Chains have announced a summer tour from June 20th to July 10th, along with their announced festival performances. This follows their announcement of a spring tour and performance at MMRBQ Festival.

According to Alternative Nation, Alice In Chains decided to stop touring around the time of the release Tripod, in 1995. There were only a few performances in 1996 though. Jerry Cantrell said “It’s an absolutely different record. I think that the reason probably that record [is underrated], it was a number one record, it debuted at number one, it did really well that way, but we didn’t tour it. That’s why probably [it’s underrated]. We did two and a half years of touring on Dirt, and we did two years of touring on Facelift. We took it everywhere, we got in everybody’s face with it, but at that particular point, that was when we had kind of decided to kind of take a break, because we were pretty burnt out.We didn’t really [tour the self-titled record], that was pretty much the end of it, as far as touring. We did a couple of shows for that [with KISS], we did an Unplugged, and that was pretty much it.”

While the spring tour is North American based, the summer tour will be Europe based with performances in Sweden, Italy, Austria, Hungary and Germany. The dates are listed below.

UPDATE (3/28): Walking Papers will be joining the Alice in Chains summer tour starting from April 28th in Boston, MA to May 18th in Lincoln, NE. This is also in support of the recent release of the band’s album WP2. Walking Papers is a hard rock super group that consists of  singer/songwriter Jefferson Angell and keyboardist/backing vocalist Benjamin Anderson from The Missionary Position, bassist Duff McKagan from Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver, and drummer Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees and Mad Season. Due to previous commitments Duff McKagan and Barrett Martin will not be along for these dates.  Instead Angell and Anderson will be joined by Nate Daley, Dan Spalding, Will Andrews, and Gregor Lothian.

According to the press release, Jefferson Angell states “I first came across Alice in Chains while I was still in middle school and well before they redefined alternative hard rock. Their influence on me as a musician is immeasurable. To have them invite us as the support act on their upcoming US tour is an honor that validates me as an artist in ways that are both hard to imagine or explain.” On April 29th, May 4th, May 6th, May 12th, and May 17th, Walking Papers will be headlining. On the rest of the dates, they will be with Alice In Chains.  The tour dates are listed below.
