For those unfamiliar with black metal music, Dimmu Borgir has been an alpha dog in symphonic black metal music, but it has been a long while since we have heard from them. Formed in Norway in 1993, Dimmu Borgir has had a longstanding career.
Now, after 7 full years, Borgir has announced the release of a new album and right in time for their 25th anniversary. It is time for the rise of Eonian. The songwriting, which features the voices of Shagrath, Silenoz, and Galder are extremely prevalent in the vocals and strings. Have no worry, though, as their drummer Daray and key player Gerlioz are still members of the band. Lastly, amidst the blackness that is Dimmu Borgir, one can hear the beautiful Schola Cantrum Choir arranged by the infamous Gaute Storaas.
The cover art, which features symmetrical, kaleidoscope imagery, contains dragons and decrepit hands and almost invokes the motif that is seen on our American dollars. Cover art was done completely by Zbigniew M. Bielak of GHOST, BEHEMOTH, and MAYHEM,
Eonian is Dimmu Borgir’s tenth full length album will be released this year on May 4th and will exhibit 10 completely new songs from the band. The album was also produced by the band itself and was engineered by the legendary Jens Borgren. Silenoz, about the album, states that “Time, when not approaching it from the construct we’re used to can’t be defined and thus it is illusory. There’s only an ‘eternal now’, which the album title is already hinting at. When we travel between the worlds seen and unseen, the perception of time ceases to exist, it has no function. Our energy is our torch and our compass when we make rifts and pierce through the veil – when we go beyond.”
If you can’t wait until May for the release of the album, February 24th will be the unveiling of the first single titled “Interdimensional Summit.” This single will also be released on a seven inch vinyl, as well. Pre-order the single here . Dimmu Borgir will also be performing at some festivals this year. Check below for the dates and locations.
