mxdwn PREMIERE: Doom Side of The Moon Release Crushing Cover of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here”

Following the success of Doom Side Of The Moon, The Sword guitarist Kyle Shutt is back with another release of heavy-metal style Pink Floyd covers. His band surprise-released three-song EP appropriately-titled Encore, consisting of the three songs the band played as an encore at their Austin, TX show. The three songs on the album are “Have a Cigar,” “Pigs (Three Different Ones)” and “Wish You Were Here.” We have the pleasure of premiering the final song from the brief collection, Shutt and company’s cover of “Wish You Were Here.”

The Austin show that inspired the Encore EP was the band’s first ever performance after announcing the ambitious plan to transform the iconic progressive rock album into a sludgy, metallic epic. The show also happened to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the release of Dark Side Of The Moon, making it a fitting tribute.

The album was recorded in the same city at Big Orange Recording Studios. The producer was Stuart Sikes, who is known for his work with The Polyphonic Spree and Cat Power. Two of the songs are from the equally iconic Floyd album Wish You Were Here, while the middle song is a cover of an Animals standout. Doom Side Of The Moon experienced a surprising amount of commercial success, peaking at #81 on the Billboard Hot 200.

Encore EP track list

1. “Have A Cigar”
2. “Pigs (Three Different Ones)”
