Charlotte Gainsbourg Releases Emotional New Video For “ I’m A Lie”

The Indepedence Day star, Charlotte Gainsbourg has released a new music video for “I’m A Lie” off of 2017s album Rest. As with previous visuals like “Rest,” “Lying with You,” and “Deadly Valentine” from the critically acclaimed album, Gainsbourg directed the “I’m A Lie” video herself. The new offering follows a similar theme as the previous videos, focusing mostly on the French singer in various surreal setting in an empty room, furnished with only a folding chair completely submerged in water.

The superstar’s, album Rest, was released on November 17, 2017 on Because Music, receiving  universal accolades and we can see why with her deepened vision of “I’m A Lie”. Taking possession of her own feeling of grief, loss , bliss and memory in her lyrics and own composition, she takes her fans to the melancholy place that we can all sympathize in feeling at some point, helping each individual to connect with the authentic single. Taking control, and directing the video herself,  Gainsbourg, speaks proudly of her accomplishments in making this video a success. Featuring Gainsbourg’s soft, dainty French vocals, “I’m A Lie”  verses and English vocals are combined to create an uplifting synth-pop chorus. Luckily for fans, the new video comes in conjunction with the announcement of a string of Gainsbourg tour dates in Europe and Japan.

The Album Rest opens up a world-wind of emotions for fans and tells Gainsbourg’s story. Spurred by the sadness and anger she felt after the 2013 death of her sister Kate Barry, who fell from the window of her Paris apartment.

For the first time, Gainsbourg writes most of her own lyrics, veering back and forth between French and English as she memorializes her sister, celebrates her father (who died in 1991) and, through her kids, laments the ever-quickening passage of time. Gainsbourg’s albums have consistently sounded beautiful—lush, forward-thinking, and well-crafted ,consistently earning positive reviews.

Her brilliance lies in her delivery and aesthetic vision. But as humans, arguably, what keeps engaging fans with Gainsbourg is her endless ability to allow her listeners to connect with stories, keeping her fan base wide and systematically anticipating her next move.
