Allegaeon Cover Rush’s “Animate”

When Denver, CO extreme metal band Allegaeon recorded their 2016 record Proponents for Sentience, produced by Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation)they also recorded two Rush covers. One of the covers, the song “Subdivisions,” appeared on the record, and is they’re most popular and most streamed song on Spotify. In celebration of the date 1/6/2018, due to the group’s song “1.618,” Allegaeon have released the second Rush cover “Animate” on all streaming platforms.

When we settled on Rush to cover during the Proponent sessions, I simply couldn’t pick which song to do. ‘Subdivisions’ or ‘Animate,” explained guitarist Greg Burgess in a press release. “Both were favorites for me personally, and both were sort of ‘under the radar’ eg. not ‘Tom Sawyer’ or ‘Spirit of the Radio… Jan 6th, 2018 is the only occurrence of the golden ratio in date form that will occur during our life time. So 1.6.18 seemed like the perfect date to release it in Allegaeon fashion.”

Allegaeon are set to begin work on their fifth studio album, again with production from Otero, in March, but in the meantime, listen to their cover of Rush’s “Animate” below.
