Along with Green Day and Blink-182, The Distillers were at the forefront of the California punk scene at the turn of the century. That being said, I know many a punk kid who would throw fists at me for putting the Distillers’ pure punk rock in the same category as the others’ skate punk.
The “Fitzroy Melbourne Fitzroy Melbourne” raised Brody Dalle and her band broke up back in 2006, after releasing three highly acclaimed and influential records between 2000 and 2003, with The Distillers, Sing Sing Death House and Coral Fang. They announced their split in 2006 following the departure of drummer Andy Granelli and bassist Ryan Sinn.
However, now, it looks like the band are back. The news was announced this morning with a post from the Twitter account @The_Distillers_ – which, though unverified, came through by birthing their way into the world with a relatively high quality 30 second teaser video, teasing new material. The same video was uploaded to Instagram via Dalle’s account nerdjuice79 (what a truly punk handle) and captioned with the words “THE DISTILLERS 2018.” Dalle has also changed her Facebook cover photo to The Distillers logo.
