Laura Marling (born Laura Beatrice Marling) is a folk singer and musician from Eversley, Hampshire. Beginning her career in 2008 with her debut album Alas, I Cannot Swim and was later nominated for the 2008 Mercury Prize for her efforts on the aforementioned album. The album, as well as the singles following that release, were produced through Virgin Records.
Marling has also performed on numerous late-night television playing her music. She has appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and Later With Jools Holland. Like a true folk vagabond, Marling also once decided to take her show outside of a venue she was supposed to perform at. She decidedly performed outside the venue because the bouncer refused to let her into her own show for being underaged.
Presently, Laura Marling has recorded and released an early work of Bob Dylan titled “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” as noted by Pitchfork. Check out the cover below.
Marling’s version of “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” was debuted through the BBC production Peaky Blinders during the fourth season finale.
Her album Semper Femina was released earlier this year and also contained a cover of Bob Dylan’s ever popular “Like A Rolling Stone.”
Laura Marling has also ventured into the movie side of entertainment; acting as a co-star in the short film “Woman Driver” Chris Perkel. Marling also won best actress for her role in “Woman Driver” at the London Short Film Festival for the 72-Hour National Film Challenge. Marling’s recent album Semper Femina has recently been nominated for the 2018 Grammy Awards’ Best Folk Album. Check the list of nominations here.
