Yo La Tengo are Joined Onstage by Fred Armisen and Michael Shannon for Cover of Suicide’s “Ghost Rider”

After a five year hiatus from their annual Hanukkah show, Yo La Tengo has finally returned. The indie-rock group moved the show from its usual spot at Maxwell’s in Hoboken in New Jersey, to the Bowery Ballroom in New York. As always, the band teamed up with many different collaborators and guests to play a wide array of covers over the course of the eight nights.

Last night, the band brought out two well-known actors, Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals) and Fred Armisen (Portlandia, SNL), to help them cover “Ghost Rider.” The 1977 track was originally sung by synth-rock innovators, Suicide, who paved the way for many synth-styles in the 1970s. As an encore performance, Armisen joined the group on drums while Shannon took center stage on vocals. According to Stereogum, Shannon even channeled his inner Alan Vega to bring authenticity to the song.

Yo La Tengo will return to the stage tonight for the final performance of the holiday concert series. They will continue touring in March on their spring tour.
