Brandi Carlile Goes Inside Your Mind in New Song “The Mother”

Folk/country artist Brandi Carlile has released another single from her highly anticipated upcoming album, By The Way, I Forgive You, which is set to drop on February 16th, in the form of the introspective Americana of “The Mother.” The song revolves around a powerful yet restrained vocal line and acoustic guitar from Carlile, with a subtle backing track of drums and acoustic bass providing just enough movement.

A musical tribute to Carlile’s daughter, Evangeline, the song blends the sounds of country, folk, and Americana into a solid piece of songwriting. “The Mother” feels decidedly old school and timeless, showing that Carlile has only improved her songwriting acumen with her frequent collaborators Tim and Phil Hanseroth since their last release, 2015’s Grammy-nominated The Firewatcher’s Daughter.

Earlier this year Carlile collaborated with a number of artists, including Pearl Jam, for a charity album entitled War child, Cover Stories: Brandi Carlile Celebrates 10 Years of The Story, which featured new versions of songs from her classic 2nd album, The Story.

By The Way, I Forgive You was recorded at the famous RCA Studios in Nashville with Grammy award-winning producer Dave Cobb and acclaimed musician Shooter Jennings handling the production duties, and it will be Carlile’s first release for Cobb’s new Elektra records imprint, Low Country Sound.
