In November of 2012, Bon Iver announced they would take a hiatus after only six years of making music. Many fans were crushed. They had just released their Grammy nominated album Bon Iver and fans were not ready for them to take break. Luckily for fans, the hiatus did not last long and the group began recording again. After several collaborations (Volcano Choir, The Shouting Matches etc.), they released their third album in September of 2016 titled 22, A Million. Since the release, the band has not slowed down. The band, Led by creator, lyricist, vocalist and creative frontman Justin Vernon, has embarked on jam-packed tour schedule since the latter part of the summer of 2016. This band focused on several southern locations in October and November before moving on to Washington DC and Richmond Virginia this month.
In Richmond last night (December 3rd), Vernon decided to play a brand new song for fans. The song titled, “Never Quite Done,” featured Vernon on vocals and keyboards. The song utilizes simplistic sounds with echoing piano strokes and aching vocal cries. Vernon said the song, “…is new and not even quite done, but I just want to play it for y’all.” The song was the final song of their two-track encore. What a way to end a show!
The experimental indie tribe from Wisconsin will continue touring their latest album, and hopefully more new music, up until April. It is sure to be a “good winter” for those who get to see the band.
