After revealing Guns N’ Roses, Avenged Sevenfold and Ozzy Osbourne as headliners the other week, Download Festival UK 2018 has announced an addition to their growing lineup, with some major names. Leading the charge is Marilyn Manson, fresh while touring for his last record, Heaven Upside Down.
The other additions are amazing as well, including Alexisonfire, Asking Alexandria, BABYMETAL, Black Veil Brides, Bodycount Ft. Ice T, Bullet For My Valentine, Dreamstate, The Hives, In This Moment, Meshuggah, Neck Deep, Parkway Drive, The Pink Slips, Rise Against, WSTR and Mayday Parade.
“We are so happy to announce that we will be playing at Download UK,” Babymetal commented. “We were last there in 2016 and it is an absolute honour to be returning to this prestigious festival next year. Can’t wait to go back and see everyone there!”
Meanwhile, Australian metal band Parkway Drive, released a statement saying: “Parkway Drive are super stoked to be returning to Download for 2018. It’s always a highlight for us to play Download and this time around we’re aiming to top it all. We can’t wait.”
Download Festival was created by Stuart Galbraith, Tom Pyke and Andy Copping in 2003 as a follow-up to the Monsters of Rock festival which had been held in the same location in Leicestershire.
The name Download was chosen in 2003 because “downloading” was considered a dirty word in the popular music industry at the time due to the problem of file-sharing, and rock was meant to be a rebellious genre of music. In addition, Download was to be a Monsters of Rock for the 21st century, and the internet was meant to provide a connection with the audience.
Continuing it’s internet theme, the festival organizers have nurtured an online community through the Download Festival Forums. It was initially created as a sounding board for festivalgoers, but it has since become an integral part of the festival organization, with regular contributions from Director John Probyn and Promoter Andy Copping. Check out the forums here.
Download Festival takes place on 8 – 10 June 2018 at the grounds of Donington Park in Leicestershire. Tickets are on sale and available to buy from here.
UPDATE: A whole slew of new artists have been added to the roster for Download Festival UK 2018, with some incredible names among them. Some of the more notable include critically acclaimed heavy metal act Baroness, pop punk favorites You Me At Six, metalcore veterans Hatebreed, classic extreme metal legends Cradle of Filth, and one of deathcore’s most beloved Thy Art is Murder. And yet, there is reportedly still more to come, so make sure to keep your eyes out.
