Foo Fighters have covered “Let There Be Rock” as a tribute to Malcolm Young, a cofounder of AC/DC who recently passed away. The tribute was performed at Corona Capital in Mexico City, Mexico.
According to SPIN, a statement about his memories of AC/DC was released on Instagram by Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl. He says “37 years ago my friend Larry Hinkle and I went to see a midnight movie on a Friday night at the Uptown Theater in Washington DC. It was 1980. We were 11 years old. The movie was ‘Let There Be Rock’. And it changed my life” As he continues,he ends with “Thank you, Malcolm for the songs, and the feel, and the cool, and the years of losing control to your rock and roll. I will do just that tonight, for you. Malcolm Young RIP.”
The band comes in, the playing begins but it takes about a minute before the song starts as the audience gets hyped up. In the background, there is a photo of Malcolm Young. In comparison to the original, the vocals are more rough and have more screams. The song can be listened to below.
