The legendary satirist “Weird Al” Yankovic, brings his long list of hilariously outrageous parodies to Chicago next year for a pair of shows at the Vic Theatre. This extensive and expansive tour spreads across North America, hitting 72 different cities including Chicago, New York, Dallas, and Seattle.
While most know Yankovic for his parodies, however on his ‘The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour’ he shakes things up. According to his official website, Yankovic will only be performing “his original (non-parody) songs” and will also not be including any costumes, props or video screens. It is safe to say while fun, this set of shows will also be very special for Yankovic and his fans.
There really is no one quite like Yankovic. Original, unique, creative, he is all the above while still being one of the most notable song parodist of all-time. In a genre of music that is often filled with one-hit wonders, Yankovic remained. Producing smash hit after smash hit, parodying everything from rock to rap. Even breaking through barriers and creating history by releasing the first ever comedy album to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 200.
Born in Lynwood, California, Alfred Yankovic began playing instruments at the very early age of 7. From there he took inspiration from his favorites such as Allan Sherman, Spike Jones and Tom Lehrer to create his own song parodies, building more and more attention around himself as he continued to mock popular songs.
Eventually his wacky and distinct persona, skilled use of music videos, and sidesplitting creative genius for parodies earned him his own television show. While the show was short-lived, Yankovic catapulted from this stepping stone and became one of the most successful parodists ever, with a long and extremely entertaining discography.
If you are in the mood to have fun and laugh while listening to nostalgic tracks, then you will not want to miss “Weird Al’s” pair of shows at the Vic. Bringing along special guest Emo Philips for his smaller and more intimate tour, it is sure to be memorable.
