This week, Dennis Lyxzén and David Sandström of the Swedish hardcore-punk band, Refused, took to Instagram to announce some exciting news. According to The PRP, The band is coming together to make new music.
The band, consisting of Dennis Lyxzén (vocals), Jon Brännström (guitar), Kristofer Steen (guitar), Magnus Flagge (bass) and David Sandström (drums), first formed in 1991 and saw success for many years. However, in 1998 the band disbanded after the release of their album The Shape of Punk To Come. During their time apart the artists worked on many side projects such as The (International) Noise Conspiracy and TEXT. In 2006, Steen released a documentary titled The Refused Are Fucking Dead, solidifying the split. However, in 2008 Lyxzén and Sandström came together for a project titled AC4.
In 2012, the band took a one year hiatus from the break to perform at several notable festivals including Coachella. In 2014 Jon announced that he was officially done with the band-even though they were supposedly all done with the band at the time. It came as less of shock though, when in 2015 the band came together to play more festivals and release an album titled, Freedom. Now the band is continuing their streak with more new music. If Lyxzén’s post is any indication, the album is sure to be experimental and complex. If Sandström’s post is any indication, the music will also still be extremely anarchist in nature.
