Two days ago (November 18th), Ben Weinman of The Prodigy joined The Dillinger Escape Plan to help them perform at the Cockenflap Festival in Hong Kong. The Prodigy first made their mark on the music scene in the 1990s. The English band based out of Essex, helped pioneer the big be a style of electronic music the has spread worldwide. The band, consisting of Liam Howlett (keyboards, synthesizers, drum machine), Keith Flint (vocals, dancing) and Maxim Reality (vocals, MC, beatboxing) will play serveral shows this December in the UK. The trio has been busy touring, along with their live member, Leo Crabtree (drums, percussions). Now, Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, has come to fill in for their former live guitarist/bassist, Rob Holliday.
The group, with Weinman in tow, performed many their hits including “Firestarter,” at the Japanese festival. The song is a techno-rock mix that combines the shredding, psychedelic rock guitar style of the 60s/70s with contemporary techno beats.
They also performed another eclectic song, titled “Voodoo People.”
Weinman took to Instagram to share his excitement over the performance.
According to The PRP, The Dillinger Escape Plan also plans on disbanding next month. The mathcore band from New Jersey will play three shows in late December at Terminal 5 (December 27th-29th). The band, named after bank robber John Dillinger, first formed in 1997. Along with Weinman (lead guitar), the band consists of Liam Wilson (bass), Greg Puciato (vocals), Billy Rymer (drums) and Kevin Antreassian (rhythm guitar).
Sadly, fans will have to come to terms with the dissolution of both of these iconic and experimental bands next month.
