Tyler, The Creator & Vince Staples @ Aragon Ballroom (3/2)

The imaginative, boisterous, and talented leader of the rap group Odd Future has recently announced new tour dates scheduled for the winter months of 2018. On March 2nd, Tyler, The Creator will be accompanied by Vince Staples and DJ Taco for a rowdy show at the Aragon Ballroom — followed by a second Tyler show the day after.

California rapper, record producer, and music video director Tyler, The Creator first began taking his music career seriously once he started making music with Odd Future’s core members, Earl Sweatshirt, Left Brain, and Hodgy Beats. He soon broke out as a solo act, becoming the leader of the alternative, anti-mainstream, hip-hop collective. Not only that, he is also the graphic designer and clothing/merchandise designer for the group. With the ability to design, along with his capability to play multiple instruments like the piano, guitar, and drums, Tyler is truly a versatile creative.

Pushing his “against the norm” Odd Future brand, Tyler has developed a stellar career after releasing 4 studio albums. His success and large cult-like following have given him the ability to earn all-star caliber features. Over the course of his career he has collaborated with the likes of Frank Ocean and Jay-Z for his song “Biking”, as well as Lil Wayne and Kanye West on his song “Smuckers”. Other collabs include A$AP Rocky, Pusha T, and Pharrell to name a few. It is safe to say that after winning an MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, and being nominated for Grammy for Album of the Year (as a featured artist), Tyler and his crew are quickly tightening their grip around the alternative hip-hop scene.

Often accused as controversial in his lyrics, his musical sound can be described as a blend of genres. Regularly blurring the lines between rap and electronica, Tyler’s music could be categorized simply as alternative hip-hop. This style tends to take from a wide range of genres such as funk, rock, jazz, soul, and electronic. This is something that can be heard all throughout Tyler’s discography
