Annie Clark who under the stage name St. Vincent has been making a name for herself as the next David Bowie. As fans are still devouring her latest album, Masseduction, which dropped in stores last month through Lomo Vista. Masseduction is Clark’s fifth studio album and it looks and sounds like something Bowie would be proud of.
So far, the singer and songwriter have shared two music videos from her acclaimed album and she has kept up the same esthetic with each one. Now as she shares the third video for fans, it has the same familiarity with it. Just like her previous videos for “New York,” and “Los Ageless,” her latest shares the same technicolor dreamscape and themes. Annie Clark delivers with a chaotic futuristic look at future housewives of America and their obsession with over medicating themselves.
“Pills” is the second track off St. Vincent’s acclaimed album and features vocals from Cara Delevingne and Jenny Lewis as well as Kamasi Washington use of the saxophone.
The music video, directed by Phillippa Price, tackles our culture’s tendency to over medicate. The video portrays tweaked out individuals, who share the same mannequin like movements and behaviors while hopped up on drugs. Futuristic shots collide with shots of the past which makes the trip even more chaotic. The lyric, “pills, pills, pills.” repeats over and over again as individuals within the clip pop the tablets as if their candy. And in today’s culture, they might as well be.
