House of Low Culture has just released their first new song in four years. “The Pervasive Mind,” is a twelve minute long eerie and experimental song full of bizarre samples and sounds. The song is part of a four way split release with Daniel Menche, Caustic Touch and EMS, that will be released December 15th on Accident Prone Records.
The project began under the direction of Andre K., of Caustic Touch. When she met Daniel Menche, Vern Avola (EMS) Aaron Turner and his wife/collaborator Faith Coloccia (House of Low Culture) at Portland’s High Water Mark Lounge, they knew something special was in the works. The groups began to collaborate and tour for fun, but eventually decided to work on a special project. The various groups have decided to release a collaborative album. The album will feature songs recorded separately by each group.
Aaron Turner, well known for his work in Isis, Old Man Gloom, Sumac, Mammifer and Unionsuit, described the project in detail to Decibel, “In essence this split can be summed up this way: A bunch of friends with shared creative ideologies who’ve made something that showcases our voices, a moment in time and space, and also emphasizes our interest in fostering a supportive and progressive community.” Turner went on to say that although each of the artists is from the Northwest, what they contribute is vastly differently from one another. They are all eccentric takes on texture, noise and atmosphere. Despite this, the album flows cohesively as if they all worked together on each track.
The groups will celebrate their cohesive collaboration at a show in Portland on December 15th. It seems fitting that they take things full-circle in the city that first brought them together.
