Since their inception in 1992, Stone Temple Pilots have been led by two legendary vocalists. From 1992 to 2013, the band was led by Scott Weiland and from 2013 to 2015 they were led by Chester Bennington. in 2015, Bennington left the group to focus on his main project, Linkin Park. Around the same time Bennington left, their previous leader Weiland passed away of drug overdose. The band took time to grief, and honor Weiland’s memory with an anniversary album. Sadly, this year Bennington committed suicide and joined Weiland in musical heaven.
The band has recently announced that they have found a new vocalist, however they have yet to announce who. The remaining members of STP, DEan DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals) and Eric Kretz (drums), have slowly been revealing clues as to who the lead singer will be.
According to The PRP, fans won’t have to wait much longer since the band is scheduled to perform November 14th at The Troubadour. The group selected its new member with a global auction process, so it is quite possible their new leader is newcomer to the music scene. The revitalized group has been recording new music as well. It will be interesting to see how the already versatile grunge/alt-rock group adapts based on their new leader.
UPDATE (11/13): Over the last week, the band has updated their Facebook page with several new puzzle pieces.
UPDATE (11/14): The final update has been revealed to be an album cover for something titled “Meadow.” Whether that is a full album or a single remains to be seen, but with the band performing tonight (and revealing their new vocalist) that question will likely be answered by tomorrow.
