As the frontman of the band that birthed the heavy metal genre, Ozzy Osbourne’s name carries some weight to it. The Black Sabbath frontman has been active in music since 1968, so when he says he’s going on a farewell tour, people take notice.
Such news broke today when Ozzy said that he is going on one last global farewell tour. But don’t be quick to say he’s “retiring.”
“People keep asking me when I’m retiring,” he says. “This will be my final world tour, but I can’t say I won’t do some shows here and there.”
The tour itself will kick off next year in 2018. The tour will wind Ozzy all around the global, keeping the man busy through 2020. The first show is in Mexico before the Prince of Darkness heads down to South America. He’ll go on a six-week leg through Europe, combining solo shows and festival appearances through the summer of 2018, and will then hit North America.
Throughout the tour, familiar faces such as Zakk Wylde (guitar), Blasko (bass), Tommy Clufetos (drums) and Adam Wakeman (keys) will back up the legendary artist.
This wasn’t the first time Ozzy announced an end to his touring days. Longtime fans will recall the “No More Tours” tour, a fun little pun of his No More Tears LP, back in 1992. It was a whole to-do for fans and the world thought they were seeing one of the greats hang up their hat. But just like that, Osbourne decided he was bored and came back to the limelight, which eventually led to his very own reality show, The Osbournes which made him (and his wife) a household name.
A retirement here looks unlikely, as the man recently said he just recorded songs for a new album. Check out the tour dates below.
