Perfectionism can be a blessing and a curse. To Kevin Shields, frontman of the Irish avant-garde rock group My Bloody Valentine, it is the only way to make music. The band is infamous for going for long stretches of time before releasing another album. They keep their fans waiting at the edge of their seat longer than even Taylor Swift-they once went six years before releasing a remastered album. Their 1991 album, Loveless, took three years and over a dozen engineers to create. Making music is truly an art-form to To Shields (guitar, vocals) and his bandmates, Bilinda Butcher (guitar, vocals), Colm Ò Cíosóig (drums) and Debbie Googe (bass).

Amidst their work transforming their albums Isn’t Anything and Loveless into remastered analog vinyl editions, the band has also been busy recording new material. According to an interview with Pitchfork, the band will “one hundred percent” have a new album out in 2018. Shields hopes to have the analog albums out in January, a tour in the summer and the new record out sometime between those two. The band began work on it a year ago, and have been alternating the work with their other project. After this project is complete, the band will finish their work on the new material. It will most likely consist of 7-8 longer songs. As the smaller number of songs proves, the band is always focused on quality over quantity. While the release date of the album is uncertain, the quality is sure to be nothing short of perfect.
