Big Boi Announces Winter 2018 Daddy Fat Saxxx Tour Dates and Releases New Video for “In The South”

Just yesterday, Big Boi announced plans for a second leg of his tour, along with the release of a new video. Big Boi will continue his Daddy Fat Saxxx Tour with eight more shows. He will make his way down from Canada, to visit Washington, Oregon and California. In September, the first leg of the tour hit stops in the east coast, the midwest and the south. This January, the iconic rapper will focus solely on the west coast. Tickets go on sale this Friday at Big Boi’s website.

In addition to the tour dates, the artist released a new video for his song, “In The South.” The song comes off of his most recent album Boomiverse, which was released this past June. The song features rap mainstay Gucci Mane and the posthumous, Houston hip-hop artist, Pimp C. The groovy song builds off the southern rap style that Big Boi and his collaborator, André 3000 popularized in their band, Outkast. Along with Outkast, Gnarls Barkely and Goodie Mop made this upbeat branch of rap popular in the late 1990s and early 2000s. There are also traces of the G-Funk style that Dr. Dre introduced in 1992 with his album The Chronic, and 1999 with 2001. Like the name of the later album indicates, the style was ahead of its time because it paradoxically borrowed techniques from earlier artists of the 70s.

The video for the song is just as funky as its aforementioned predecessors. It features the three artists rapping in a car-but not just any car. They are brought to life through the animations of Cartoon Buck. They cruise along the make-believe streets of the animated South.

The video is a follow up to their collaboration with Adam Levine and Sleepy Brown on, “Mic Jack.” The rest of the album, which features other iconic artists such as Killer Mike, Curren$y, Kurupt, Troze, Eric Bellinger, Snoop Dogg, Scar, Big Rube and Jeezy, can be listened to this coming January on the second leg of Big Boi’s tour.
