After multiple all-star collaborations, award nominations, and an album that debuted at #3 on the Billboard Charts, Top Dawg Entertainment’s newest signee SZA has been making major waves in 2017. As her popularity and success continues to grow, she swings by the Concord Music Hall in Chicago next month, after closing her CTRL Tour.

New Jersey’s SZA (pronounced sizza), was originally born in St. Louis, Missouri before relocating to New Jersey where she was raised. The 26-year-old alternative R&B singer was raised off of classic jazz, such as Billie Holiday and John Coltrane. As well as rap groups such as Wu-Tang Clan where she the inspiration for her name originated from, because of member RZA. Her first projects were two EPs, See.SZA.Run and S, released in 2012 and 2013. Now flashforward to 2017, we see SZA being a part of one of the most influential groups in music, Top Dawg Entertainment, as well as scoring a Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar feature on her explosive album CTRL. An album that inspired her widely successful CTRL Tour, as well as success on the Billboard Charts.

When trying to explain her music, SZA explains “when you try to label it (her music), you remove the option for it to be limitless. It diminishes the music.”. She grew up listening to a variety of genres and artists, and still does. SZA refuses to label her music as only one genre such as R&B, pop, or hip-hop because she influenced by many different types of sounds and genres. Many have described her successful style as alternative-R&B, and can be heard within her music on songs such as “Love Galore” with Travis Scott, as well as “Doves In The Wind” with Kendrick Lamar.

These smash hits, as well as SZA’s unique musical style, can all be seen performed live at the Concord this December. After a very successful CTRL Tour, this pit-stop in Chicago is not a show to be missed. For ticket information, click the link below.
