There are few groups in music today that have had a run comparable to the run the Migos have had in the past few years. From Donald Glover calling them the “New Beatles” at the Golden Globes, to earning their first #1 song on the Billboard Charts, the Migos’ rise to fame has been spectacular and does not show any signs of slowing down.
Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff. These are the faces that make up the platinum-selling trio, and they have all been close since birth. Quavo is Takeoff’s uncle, and Offset is Quavo’s cousin. Born and raised in Atlanta, the three family members started making music together in 2009, originally going by the name Polo Club. While the name never stuck, the music did, and eventually caught the attention of significant names throughout Hip Hop. Zaytoven, a celebrated music producer, and Kevin Lee, a successful music manager, discovered the Migos in 2012 after their mixtape “Bando” brought them recognition within the Atlanta region. It was not long before their music was pushed far enough to reach Drake, who then remixed the famous Migos’ song “Versace” and officially brought them to the mainstream.
When a Migos’ song comes on, everyone knows it’s them. Their choppy sound or “flow” is often claimed to have been imitated by other artists, and because of this, the Migos believe that this unique style of rapping has changed and influenced Hip Hop forever. With melodic hooks sung by the group’s stand-out Quavo, the hard-hitting raps given by Takeoff, and the attitude Offset brings to his verses, the Migos compliment each other extremely well.
Whether it’s their viral video-inspiring hook “Look At My Dab”, the breakout #1 Billboard hit “Bad & Boujee”, or their notorious ad-libs and beat selection, the Migos have been creating huge waves in the music industry. Another notable song by the crew “Slippery” is a now platinum hit, and their 2014 hit “Fight Night” was nominated for a BET award. While at their peak, Hip Hop’s hottest group takes the stage this November at the Riviera Theatre, featuring Lil Yachty and many more!
